Mayor's Message

Welcome to the Mayor's Message column, which aims to keep you up-to-date with what is happening in the City of Marion.

The Mayor, Kris Hanna, is busy visiting the many community groups in our area, and meeting the people who make our city such a wonderful place in which to live.

This column allows Mayor Hanna to share these experiences and provide you with important information on a regular basis.

Mayor’s Message – December 2017

Council is about to submit the Housing Diversity Development Plan Amendment (DPA) to Planning Minister John Rau.

The plan will shape the future of housing in our city. We tried to get the right balance between minimising excessive urban infill while catering for a growing population. The Minister may now accept, reject, or alter the DPA.

This year’s other achievements included opening a new wetland at Glade Crescent Reserve and securing a new home for soccer in the south.

Council has also earmarked $10 million towards the $19.75 million upgrade of Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre and we are seeking matching funding.

Work will begin in January on the $8.8 million transformation of Edwardstown Oval into a modern sporting and community complex and memorial site. Council and the Australian Government are redeveloping the oval to address the shortage of community, recreation and sporting facilities in the region.

I hope you enjoy the festive season and wish you all the best for the New Year.
