The concept was developed from feedback gathered at the consultation session held on site during July 2012. The design proposes the integration of the former Sturt River bed oxbow and a formalised connection to the Sturt River linear trail. Natural play features such as rock lined water play swales and sand have been proposed with the inclusion of a climbing net structure, talking tubes, birds nest swing, shade, shelter and picnic facilities. The addition of some exercise equipment adjacent to the Sturt linear trail will enhance recreation and fitness activities for older people. The proposal also considers re-vegetating the site with native flora, enhancing biodiversity and educational opportunities. The construction of the new playground and associated works is due to commence in March / April 2013, and will be completed by June 2013.
