Home Energy Audits
Do you want to understand how much energy you are using at home and identify how you can reduce that use?
Home Energy Audit Toolkits are available for loan at each of council's three libraries: Park Holme, Marion Cultural Centre, and Hallett Cove.
The kit includes a range of practical tools to help residents complete an energy audit of their own home.
You can also do the audit online using checklists prepared by the South Australian Government.
If you don’t think that this is for you, check out the Residential Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) that has been designed to help South Australian households reduce greenhouse emissions and lower their energy bills.
Under the REES, energy retailers operating in South Australia are required to achieve targets for improving energy efficiency in households, through implementing measures such as ceiling insulation, draught proofing and more efficient appliances. They are also required to deliver energy audits to low income households.
All South Australian households are able to participate in the scheme. For many this is likely to be at little or no cost as energy retailers are expected to offer households incentives to adopt energy saving measures. Householders may also be able to take up incentives offered by any retailer.
The REES presents an opportunity for energy efficiency businesses, welfare groups, local governments, manufacturers and other service providers to work in partnership with energy retailers in achieving their targets.
The REES is administered by the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA), and will run until 2014.
