Swimming Pools - Discharge of Water
Swimming pool water, or any other waste water must not be discharged into the streets and allowed to enter the stormwater system. As a rule, only rain water that is clean and free of contaminants can enter the storm water system.
Swimming pool water (particularly back wash water) contains a range of chemicals such as chlorine and salt, as well as dirt particles, leaves, body oils, sun screen residues and bacteria which can affect aquatic plants and animals.
Swimming pool water and back wash water should be directed to sewer.
Concerns regarding waste water being discharged to the street water table should be referred to the Environment Health Unit on (08) 8375 6600.
Please contact an Environment Health Officer as soon as possible if the discharge is still occurring.
