As a designated Healthy City, City of Marion is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and taking preventative measures to improve the health of all residents in our community.

Part of this commitment is by providing a wide range of services that contribute to the health and well being of the community, such as walking and cycling opportunities.

 

Walking and Cycling Strategy 2012 - 2017

The City of Marion is developing its on and off road walking and cycling paths to provide a connected and safe network in order to:

  • Encourage and support increased walking and cycling as a sustainable transport alternative, and
  • Contribute to the health and well being of the community.

A comprehensive Walking and Cycling Strategy has been prepared by the council to assist in the planning and provision of this infrastructure and associated amenities and education.

 

Walking

The City of Marion offers Heart Foundation Walking Groups in partnership with the Heart Foundation that provide a safe way to be healthy and enhance social contact and community spirit.

The walking groups are an easy and accessible way to stay physically active and cater to all ages and abilities. Groups can be of any size and walk at various times, days, lengths and levels.

The City of Marion encourages pedestrians and recreational walkers to enjoy the natural environment including conservation parks, recreation parks and beaches. City of Marion has a range of beautiful walking spots you can enjoy, including:
